January 2 is the day that all Linux users are waiting for eagerly. It is the day that Ubuntu top secret new product will be announced. A brand new product that is likely to lead to creation of a new ecosystem. Since there is no official announcement of what the new product will be, there has are a lot of speculations going around at what it might be.
Majority of the individuals whom have formed camp at the Canonical headquarters awaiting the announcement believe that the new product is Ubuntu for Tablets and Phones. This can be attributed to the fact the canonical community has been able to cover virtually all forms of electronics from servers, desktop computers to even TVs leaving game console systems and tablets/phones.
Another proposed idea of what the new product is likely to be is a form of hardware or software product that targets data centers or business. These individuals believe that the new product will offer cloud based services that will help in managing different mobile devices.
Other parties reading from the news announcement believe that the product will be a new ecosystem or a cross platform system. By this, they believe that Ubuntu will be ported to both phones and tables such that they will be able to both Mac OSX and Windows applications natively.
Alternatively, other individuals believe that the new system will be a next generation cross platform operating system. This system, they believe that will be ARM based such that it will be able to run both on smart phones and tablets and at the same time have a range of variants that can be made use by desktops. As such, these Linux enthusiasts believe that the new product to be released is likely to be done in three different version: Ubuntu LT, Ubuntu Phone and Ubuntu 8. All these will have a new user interface. While all these suggestions give an insight to what the product will be, one can only wait for January 2 to hear Ubuntu's new top secret new product.
